Description
Transgender People: Clients, Colleagues, Targets
Join national speaker, inclusivity consultant, author, and retired veteran civil trial lawyer Ellen “Ellie” Krug as she shares what it means to be transgender and as she offers tips and advice on how to be inclusive toward anyone who identifies as trans or nonbinary.
What does it mean to be “trans” or to identify as nonbinary? What can we do to make trans and nonbinary people feel welcomed and accepted? What actions or words should we avoid? And how are trans/nonbinary humans affected by extreme government targeting?
We face many challenges in our interactions including our dealings with trans and nonbinary clients —how can you ensure that they are welcomed and not marginalized? How should lawyers react when opposing counsel, or even the court, marginalize your client?
Other challenges involve transgender and nonbinary colleagues - to what degree does their “passing” or not “passing” affect their employability or quality of assignments? How do you deal with judges or opposing counsel who may be less accepting of trans/nonbinary lawyers or clients?
And, of course, there are the challenges stemming from the current political environment.
Share your thoughts and ideas as we conclude the program with a Q&A session.
